Recently, the expansion of the role of the public library beyond the place of information acquisition and education centered on books is demanding the symbol of the community and the value as a cultural community space. Accordingly, public libraries are developing in the form of complex cultural spaces to revitalize the region. The purpose of this paper is to explore the development direction of the public library to provide the central point of the development of unique culture and arts in a specific region and to create a cultural identity. In particular, this study aims to suggest the development direction of public libraries for local cultural branding through the study of public libraries as complex cultural spaces. (Method) First, we studies the concept of public library, the role related to the community, and the meaning of the library as a complex cultural space based on the bibliographic information. Second, we analyzes the cases of domestic and foreign public libraries operating as complex cultural spaces. Third, through the analysis results, we suggest the direction of development of public library as a complex cultural space. (Results) The function of a complex cultural space can be linked to the function of a public library by the characteristics of symbolism, complexity, expertise, participation and accessibility. As a result of the case analysis, participation among the five characteristic elements was the highest, which could see the importance of encouraging voluntary participation by providing various programs and spaces. The next high level of complexity and accessibility conforms to the meaning of a complex cultural space in that you can experience various values in an easily accessible space. Symbolism was rated as the highest scale in all cases. Based on this symbolism, the public library as a cultural complex will be able to be a landmark that accentuates the characteristics of the area and thus gain the value of the tourism industry as well as the influx of people from other regions. (Conclusions) Public libraries as complex cultural spaces can be landlocked and improve the quality of cultural spaces by developing contents of cultural spaces that fit the characteristics of regions and providing professional information. In addition, the architecture that serves as the hardware of space should be unique, and the operating program that is the software should meet the user’s requirements. Variety, a characteristic of complex cultural spaces, needs to be applied to the spatial composition and services of public libraries. In conclusion, the pursuit of directionality, which fused the role and spatial composition of the composite cultural space while maintaining the basic function of public libraries, is expected to help promote the local branding and the lives of local residents.

Into the recent age of millennium and competition, not only people but also communities are focusing on building their own image and establishing identities. To do this, companies are applying brand identities for urban renewal implementation to enhance competitiveness of village companies and realize social value that produces contents with unique and differentiated identity of each region based on obtaining and sharing power of residentsโ€™living culture. This research is aimed at developing an integrated brand identity and suggesting brand image for Wonmi Buheung Market and Geumgang Market in Bucheon. To this end, first, we looked at the concept, role and elements of design of market branding centered on literature research. Second, we analyzed them according to detailed items from domestic to foreign branding cases. Third, we suggested logo, symbol and slogan based on brand identity elements which are drawn by surveys and interview centered on markets in Wonmi of Bucheon. As a result, by designing Wonmi Mountain and Simgok Stream which are symbols of Wonmi, we suggested slogan which expresses friendly image and sense of community establishing the actual market brand identity of Bucheon Wonmi that reflects the opinions of the market merchants.

Recently, the maker movement has been started to drive new economic innovation in major countries such as the USA, Europe, and China. It appears as cultural activities such as maker fairs, maker spaces, and communities of makers. The domestic maker movement needs popularization based on expansion and a appropriate growth direction in cooperation with the government-led and private sector. In addition, it is necessary to investigate the situation in order to effectively support the maker movement as the driving force of socio-cultural development and to establish policies accordingly. This study is to draw the values of the maker movement according to the environments and characteristics by analyzing the actual conditions of the maker movement and to propose a direction for the proliferation and settlement of it. For this research, first, it examined the concepts and trends of the maker movement based on literature survey and analyzed prior research related to the maker movement. Secondly, after selecting the eligible stakeholders such as the educators, maker space operators, developers, and overseas makers related to domestic maker movement, in-depth interviews and FGI(Focus Group Interview) were conducted. Third, this article extracted the insights of the maker movements and determined 76 keywords related to the maker movements. These keywords were classified into ‘People’, ‘Space and facilities’, ‘Education’, and ‘Business’ categories. As a result, ‘Business’ keywords were the most common with 24.2%. The purpose of this study is to present guidelines for service design for efficient operation of Maker Space due to the proliferation of Maker Movement. First, we investigate the literature survey and prior research on the definition and status of Maker space. Second, we performed video ethnography, participant observation and in-depth interview on maker space service by qualitative survey method. Third, we analyze the surveyed contents and present guidelines such as Persona or Blueprint for maker space. We classify Maker space into general lab and professional lab, derive Persona from each Maker space, and establish Blueprint to provide guidelines for design and operation. It is expected that the Maker space service design presented in this study can be used as a guideline to help the service improvement of the existing Maker space and the planning, design and operation of the new Maker space.
